Buddies (Author Interview)

Buddies looks like a great children’s book.  What age group would you recommend?

I would recommend it for ages between 5 - 16 years old, but adults would enjoy it too.

What inspired you when writing Buddies?

I've been bullied numerous times as a child and believe it or not as an adult also, but I've also helped others being bullied and I could relate to both main characters in the story.

How did you come up with the story in Buddies?
I wanted children to be able to empathize or at least learn how to empathize with a character going through a very sad and lonely experience of  being bullied. So I thought why not try to use a beautiful flower as a character being bullied.

Everyone thinks all flowers are beautiful, so why would anyone think of bullying a flower for the way it looks lol. There is an underlying theme in this story about discrimination of any kind.  All flowers are beautiful, all humans are beautiful.

Why would anyone think a flower is ugly or treat a flower poorly because of how it looks, so why would anyone treat any human poorly because they look different.  We're all flowers in a garden in a way.

I wanted to point it out subtly and it starts with the children.

Did anything stick out as particularly challenging when writing Buddies?

Trying to explain pollen and how to make the Bumblebees collecting pollen look exciting lol

What do you like to do when not writing?
I like filmmaking.  I love to bring my stories to life and show everyone the stories in my head. I produce my screenplays, I also direct and edit my films.

Where can readers find out more about your work?
