Rarely does a book cover the multiple genres the seamless way Ahe’ey does. Romance, sci-fi, mystery, fantasy, philosophy and feminism all combine to make an intelligent, fun read.

There’s enough action weaving everything together that it’s hard to put down. The book begins with different periods in time. We get a feel for the history of the characters. A young woman named Morgan created the Hope Foundation, whose mission is to empower girls and women everywhere. She meets Gabriel, who is in New York City to escort (protect) her to speaking engagements. There is an inexplicable and mutual fascination between them. Gabriel and Morgan go to the island of Ahe’ey to recover from violence meant for Morgan and she meets four tribes who are more advanced than any known people. The Ange’el (Gabriel’s tribe), Yi’ingo, Ma’asai and the Hu’urei tribes live in a matriarchal society and have distinct views on the role of women and men.

Morgan becomes involved in a war and discovers that magic is really possible.

This book is a thoughtful look at empowerment for women. At the same time, it’s a rollicking trip into a fantasy world complete with dragons, love and strength, and ideas that really get you thinking. This book is highly recommended for all ages.
