When Jane Foster’s father dies of illness in the winter of 1849, she seeks out to find a husband in the Virginia classifieds. The gold rush was in a boom, and the men of San Francisco were on the hunt for a worthy bride to ship over. This was how Ms. Foster came in contact with Erastus Bostwick, a merchant who had made his fortune selling supplies to the gold miners. Within a few months of courtship, Jane found herself on a great voyage to the West. Throughout the treacherous journey, she dreams and wonders what her new life will be like. She imagines her new home, her wealthy husband and a land filled with adventure.
However when she lands, Jane is told some shocking news and her life is turned upside down. Will she still be able to find love? Will she be able to survive in 1850 San Francisco?
