The Great Recession Resurrection looks like an exciting guide.  Can you tell us a little about it?

-          Yes. It’s my story of how I navigated unemployment during the Great Recession of the mid-late 2000s.  How I received a breakthrough opportunity to get back into the professional world, and diligently worked hard at that position which led me to a next level career opportunity.

-          Additionally, I also lay out practical steps that other faithful professional can follow to get their careers back on track.

How long did it take you to write The Great Recession Resurrection?

-          It’s been a seven-year journey.

-          I started writing the book a few months before the birth of my first daughter in 2014, and am now finally launching a couple years after my youngest child was born.

-          Interestingly enough, the moment I decided to write the story, fear and doubt crept in.  I asked myself could I be vulnerable and open? As a man of faith, I just kept feeling the Spirt lead me and tug me in the direction to get this book finished and published.

What inspired you when writing The Great Recession Resurrection?

-          When I came out of my unemployment period and eventually broke through to my dream opportunity, I felt that I had to share my experiences, knowledge, and testimony to others that may be in a similar position as I was.

-          Some people learn better by inspiration and some by information.  I’ve written a book that has two parts, so it connects with professionals however they can best receive it.  One part speaks to trials, tribulations, and triumphs, and the second part lays out specific steps that can help you be successful in your career navigation.

What will readers get out of your book?

-          I want to encourage professionals who may be down on their luck or may have run into a rough patch in their career.  I also want to inspire readers who may be stuck in their career, and looking for inspiration to take it to the next level.

-          There is a promise out there for everyone and I want readers to know that I’ve been there, struggling with the same career frustration they are going through.  But, if they just keep putting one foot in front of the other, they will eventually reach, meet, and ultimately, with faith, dedication, and perseverance, exceed their dreams

What motivated you to become a writer?

-          My Dad has written a number of books in his professional field, and he has been a good example of putting “pen to paper”.

-          Also, my friend Ken from graduate school is an author and playwright.  He encouraged me and provided timely advice and insights, along my writing journey.

-          Lastly, I remember seeing a sign once outside of a book store. It said that books can go where you can’t.  Well, I felt that my story was so relevant and real to so many people’s experiences, that it was critical for me to share.  The book would help me reach, and inspire, a broader audience that I may not get a chance to directly interact with.

How did you come up with the ideas in The Great Recession Resurrection?

-          Ironically, since it was my story and my experiences, it didn’t take that long to come up with the ideas.  That said, managing/balancing professional and personal commitments is what really put a strain on the development process over time.  Additionally, pairing the book down from a stream of conscious thoughts to an actual concise story took some time.

Did anything stick out as particularly challenging when writing The Great Recession Resurrection?

-          There were a number of situations with regards to the process that were challenging, but since I felt like I have been called to write this story, it was no longer about the challenges, but rather about finding my way through (or above, below, or around the challenge, lol), in one way or another.

What do you like to do when not writing?

-          I love watching movies (especially Marvel movies), spending time with my family, and listening to Gospel and Christian Contemporary music, amongst a few other things.
