Reunited After the Storm looks like an
exciting story. Can you tell us a little
about it?
It is a story of two friends, Abe and Jonas,
separated during an earthquake at the time of their adoption. The two boys were
adopted from Haiti to the United States. The story follows Abe through his
adoption and search for Jonas.
Any plans to turn it into a series?
I do not have plans to turn this into a
series. Eventually I would like to create a Young Adult adaptation. However, I
am working on a series that will deal with the emotions of young children, each
book touching on something different.
How long did it take you to write Reunited After the Storm?
I took around a month between writing and
editing. The longer process was finding an illustrator and publication.
What inspired you when writing Reunited After the Storm?
I was inspired by the values it could teach
children including worth, friendship, and patience. Growing up I felt as if I
was unwanted at times because of my adoption when that really wasn’t the case.
I wanted to change the minds of readers who thought this way.
What will readers get out of your book?
Readers will get a sense of belonging and
value. I hope my readers get a sense of hope and understanding that anything is
possible. Above all else, family is who you choose to surround yourself around,
those that care about you.
How did you come up with the story and ideas in Reunited After the Storm?
The story was very loosely based on my own
story, coming to America during the earthquake in Haiti. I took pieces of my
life that gave influence such as growing up in a diverse family, and my love of
sports.
Did anything stick out as particularly challenging when writing Reunited After the Storm?
I had a hard time figuring out how much of my
real life story I wanted to include in the book. I want it to have some aspects
of my personal life but keep it inclusive to allow all readers connectivity.
What do you like to do when not writing?
I like listening to music and creating digital
content such as photography or videography. I also like physical activity
whether that be team sports or just on my own.
