Who Is Hiding
In The Wild looks like a great book. What can you tell us about it?
“Who Is Hiding In The Wild?” is a book that contains captivating
facts about wild animals, written in an easy-to-digest way, and with fun illustrations
that are sure to bring a smile to the reader’s face! Did you know that
crocodiles carry their babies in their snout while they swim in water? Or that,
unlike cats, lions are not scared of water? “Who Is Hiding In The Wild?” makes a
perfect first ‘animal facts’ book to satisfy the curiosity of young readers who
love animals. It also features easy search-and-find activities for an
interactive exploration.
Any plans to turn it into a series?
I have thought about it and would love to create a “Who is hiding” series, with other books titles
such as “Who is hiding in the ocean?”,
“Who is hiding in the forest?”, etc.
That’s an amazing cover. Can you
tell us about it?
Being a graphic designer, I had a lot of fun making the
cover for this book. I wanted to create something that looks fun and colourful,
and that makes young readers want to pick up the book and see what’s inside. I
hope I have managed to achieve that.
What age group did you write the book for?
The book is aimed at 3-7 year olds. It’s a great little book
for parents, grandparents and teachers to read to their little ones, and have
fun discovering animal facts together! Early readers will also enjoy reading
the simple yet engaging text and talking about the amazing facts they have
learnt.
What scene or section did you have the most fun writing?
I had fun writing all the sections and coming up with ideas to
display the facts in a way that would be appealing to young children. I learnt
a few new facts along the way too! I also had a lot of fun making illustrations,
like the fluffy owlet, the elephant trunk holding a cherry, and the rhino
taking a mud bath.
What inspired the idea for the book?
I have always been fond of animals, and the three children’s
books I published so far all revolve around animals. As a child, I was always
eager to learn about them, their habitats, and how they interact with nature.
My own children are growing up and are now very interested in learning about
animals and nature. So, I thought, why not make a book with fun facts about
wild animals? My six-year-old and eight-year-old children were the first ones
to ‘test read’ the book and I was thrilled to see that they loved it! I hope
many more children will have fun reading “Who Is Hiding In The Wild?”
How did you come up with the title for the book?
To make the book interactive, I added a simple
‘search-and-find’ activity for each animal. Young children often love seeking games,
and the title came from the fact that the reader has to guess which animals are
hiding in the wild.
Did anything stick out as particularly challenging when writing Who Is
Hiding In The Wild?
I self-published the book, created the cover and interior
pages designs and wrote the text. Creating and publishing a book without the
help of publishers, editors, designers, etc., can be challenging, as I had to
juggle all the different aspects of creating and publishing the book. But I do
love a challenge! J
What do you like to do when not writing?
I am a freelance graphic designer and, when I am not
writing, I create designs such as logos, banners, posters, brochures, and more.
I love being able to let my creativity loose and coming up with fresh ideas for
design projects.
