What inspired you to write Visibility In Leadership?
-
The inspiration behind “Visibility In Leadership” came from two
places. The first bit and most important bit of inspiration came from my wife.
My wife is a poet herself and what has brought this passion for writing to
life. However, the inspiration for the topic came from both life experiences as
a leader on the playing field as well as the numerous educational
conferences/programs I’ve attended prior.
Any plans to turn it into a series?
-
I do have plans to write more. I see this nonfiction topic more as a
one off educational/personal development piece. Though this won’t lead to a
series per say there will definitely be numerous topics related to this that
will be useful for readers in all aspects of life.
What do you hope readers will get out of reading your book?
-
My main goal with this is that people are able to further progress in
their career or just make their career a happier place to spend time. As we all
know, many people are not happy with their jobs today. I believe that the
relationship/mentorship aspect of this can lead to a more enjoyable work
environment for many.
How did you decide on your books title and cover design?
-
The title I felt was self explanatory as each of the 8 chapters were
a piece of my title itself. The design though simple requires more thought. As
I wanted the design to remain simple but I did not want it to take away from
the value of information this book holds. With the title of visibility in
leadership I felt that having the person leading the pack in gold ahead of everyone
made them more visible. This was the most simple way for me to project the
description and title of the book while keeping it eye catching.
What trends do you see in your genre/topic and where do you think the industry is heading?
-
The overall genre is personal development/career development. Which
is a topic I believe is going to be the main bit of reading for the next
generation. The rise of this genre along with self help has been some of the
most read material in recent times.
Were their experiences in your personal life or career that came in handy when writing this book?
-
Most definitely. I believe the experience that came in handy is my
years on the cricket field. With me spending nearly 10-12 years around the top
players in the game and nearly 7 of those years captaining those top players in
numerous private tournaments around the world. I have gathered plenty of key
experiences in the topic of leadership and how to be visible. Especially the
aspect of visibility being the less experienced yet being appointed captain
time after time lead me to the need to be visible to those more profound
players.
What section did you have the most fun writing?
-
This might be a surprise to some but the section I enjoyed writing
the most was the introduction. The reason I say that was because I used the
story of Sheryl Sandberg former Facebook COO to kick of the importance of my
topic and the time I put into studying her career really brought together the
importance of the message I wanted to get out.
What challenges did you overcome in the writing this book?
-
The part I felt most challenging was to ensure the book wasn’t just
filled with information written in a manner that was to educational. I had done
edit after edit to try and make sure the information held the same value and
meaning but making it sound more conversational at the same time.
If people can buy or read one book this week or month, why should it be yours?
-
There are millions of books out there but I believe the mass
popularity in literature is shifting towards self help and self personal
development books. Since my book gives valuable information that can lead to
career growth, professional relationships, better work environments, etc. I
believe my book is a must read
Where can readers find out more about your work?
-
The two ways to find my other pieces of work are either via LinkedIn
searching “Zishawn Qureshi” or on Instagram by searching “zishawnwrites” and my
book of course is available currently as an ebook on Amazon.
