What made you want to create a journal like this for moms?
My mother is living with dementia, and I realized how important it was to preserve her long-term memories before they faded. I began asking her the same questions that are now in this book, seeking insight into the moments I wasn’t around for. It became a way to connect, to honor her story, and to ensure her voice would be remembered. That experience inspired me to create something other families could use to do the same.
The journal is divided into 14 chapters. Which chapter do you think moms will enjoy writing in the most, and why?
I believe the "Childhood Memories" chapter will resonate most. It invites a sense of playfulness and nostalgia. Reflecting on our early years often brings joy and laughter, and since every mom was once a child, it creates a beautiful bridge between generations. It’s both relatable and uplifting. You encourage moms not to rush through the book. Why do
you think taking time matters when telling personal stories?
Capturing memories isn’t something to be rushed. The goal is to reflect deeply and share as much as you're comfortable with. Taking your time makes the process more meaningful and far less stressful. It allows memories to unfold naturally and thoughtfully, which ultimately leads to a richer and more heartfelt keepsake.
The book mixes lighthearted questions with deeper ones.
How did you balance fun prompts with more serious ones?
Just like life, this journal reflects a range of emotions and experiences. The chapters are designed to weave together moments of humor, joy, reflection, and wisdom. By intentionally spacing out the lighter prompts between more serious topics, I wanted to keep the tone accessible while still honoring the depth and complexity of every mom’s story.
There’s a family tree section in the journal. Why was
it important to you to include that?
I felt it was important to offer families a space to document their lineage if they chose to. The family tree can serve as a simple yet powerful visual connection between generations—a legacy map that helps loved ones understand where they come from and how they're all connected.
Some chapters ask about childhood, while others go into
politics, spirituality, and life lessons. What do you hope families will learn
from seeing all these sides of their mom’s story?
I hope it gives families a fuller, richer understanding of their mom—not just as a parent, but as a whole person. These stories reveal how she grew up, the values that shaped her, the choices she made, and the wisdom she gained along the way. It’s about seeing the common ground you share, but also appreciating the unique journey she’s been on.
You mention that writing can be a kind of therapy. Can
you share why you feel journaling is healing?
Writing can be incredibly therapeutic because it allows you to express thoughts and emotions that might otherwise stay unspoken. It creates space for reflection, release, and connection. Sharing your story—especially with loved ones—can foster understanding and even strengthen relationships. It becomes a gift not just for others, but for yourself as well.
How do you see this book being used by children or
grandchildren once it’s filled out?
I envision this journal becoming a treasured heirloom—a meaningful way for children and grandchildren to connect with their mother or grandmother on a deeper, more personal level. While many of these books may be gifted to moms by their children, once completed, they become priceless keepsakes that future generations can revisit, learn from, and feel deeply connected to.
If a mom feels unsure about sharing certain memories,
what advice would you give her about starting?
I’d encourage her to see this journal as a space where her voice matters—where her memories, thoughts, and feelings are valid and worth sharing. This book is a gift not only to her loved ones but to herself. Even if she chooses to skip some questions, every story she chooses to tell helps her family better understand the incredible life she’s lived.
What separates your journal from the rest?
It's thoughtfully designed with busy moms in mind. It features a mix of shorter, easy-to-answer prompts that help reduce fatigue and keep the experience enjoyable and efficient. Plus, it uses larger print for easier reading, makin
