Can you tell us a little about Career Day at School?

Career Day at School, the Best Day of the Year! Follow along on a rhyming journey as students share about the heroes in their lives.  Currently there are 4 books in the series with the 5th and 6th on the way.  The first book, A Hero Wears a Sheriff’s Badge, followed by A Hero Drives an Ambulance, A Hero Wears a Trooper’s Hat, A Hero Wears Pilot Wings, with Everyday Hospital Heroes coming out in February and the 6th will be a surprise to the readers.  Anyone can be a mentor or hero to someone, so I expect the series to grow as I add new careers.

What motivated you to write the series?

I produced a monthly video called Story Time with Jeffery D Paden.  It’s a bimonthly video show on YouTube and Facebook featuring the Sheriff, his staff and friends of the Sheriff's Office reading children's books. Topics vary but include safety, bullying, gun safety and many other educational stories. Story Time was the inspiration for writing my first book, A Hero Wears a Sheriff's Badge.  When I began writing I didn’t plan to have a series, but as I wrote more stories came to mind.  Every book written so far have been about someone special in my life that has been a true hero to me.

What age group did you write the book for

The series was written for all age groups; however, I would say that the demographics for the series are for ages 5-12

How long did it take you to write Career Day at School

The first book in the series, A Hero Wears a Sheriff’s Badge took approximately 6 months to complete and the other 3 books in the series took approximately 2 months each.  I am currently working on a 5th and 6th book in the series at this time and I would expect the 5th book “Everyday Hospital Heroes” to be finished in February 2023.

Did anything stick out as particularly challenging when writing Career Day at School

I would say the challenging part to writing a series is to not duplicate what I’ve already said and coming up with new material to keep the rhymes fresh.

What do you like to do when not writing?

I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, traveling and trap shooting, including competitive trap shooting.
