Can you tell us a little about T.O.W.A Rising?

T.O.W.A Rising is an ongoing fantasy and adventure series set in the world of Towa, a realm built upon ancient magic, lore, and diversity. The story begins on the day of the 'Ascendant Festival' in the Great City of Atowa, where new heroes known as 'Ascendants' are celebrated. Koa, a young rebel from the poorest district of Atowa, finds himself entangled in the machinations of a mastermind's power-hungry plan. After the dust settles, Koa is left alone but is soon approached by a goddess who offers to unlock a great power within him and the chance to become a special kind of hero. Reluctant at first, Koa accepts, only to find himself labeled an Outlier and blamed for crimes he did not commit. To clear his family's name and prove his innocence, he embarks on a journey where he must decide what kind of hero he wants to be and the hero the world truly deserves.

What inspired you to write this series?

I was inspired to write this series by my love for storytelling, manga, and comics. As a child, consuming fantastical media sparked my imagination, and my brother and I would create our own stories and concepts, even our own heroes. Recently, I was reminded of that love by my brother and witnessed new creators sharing their ideas and stories on social media. It reignited my passion for a great story and motivated me to write one of my own, something personal to me.

What type of reader did you write the book for?

This series is for readers who eagerly awaited new episodes of their favorite series every week as children. It's for those who not only fell in love with the story but also with the characters. It's for those who can watch over a thousand episodes of 'One Piece' or rewatch 'Avatar: The Last Airbender' for the nostalgia and the amazing characters. In essence, it's for readers who love a good, simple yet complex story that feels familiar yet excitingly new.

Can you tell us a little about Koa?

Koa was born in the poorest district of Atowa, known as the Third Ring District. He has always been a rebel, quick to defend others while still finding time for himself. He's a dreamer, yearning for adventure and a better life for his family, often sacrificing his own happiness for others. Like anyone he can be selfish sometimes but leans more towards selflessness. Sometimes he wishes he didn't always have to bear the weight of the world on his shoulders all the time. Koa is still figuring himself out, and that's what makes him a special kind of hero. ‘A human Hero’, is what I like to call him.

How long did it take you to write T.O.W.A Rising?

I'm still writing the series. However, for Issue #1, it took me a few weeks to solidify how it started. After several revisions, I felt confident about the current comic script and format, which took about a month. Fortunately, I had already written over 50 chapters in novel format for fun before I considered turning it into a comic.

How did you come up with the title for the book?

I wanted the title to be clever and reflect the idea of heroes being called 'Ascendants' in the story. Thus, 'T.O.W.A Rising' or 'Towa Rising' came to mind, signifying ‘The One's Who Ascend. Rising.’

Did anything stick out as particularly challenging when writing T.O.W.A Rising?

Creating authentic conversations proved to be a challenge. Sometimes, the initial ideas don't read as well as expected. Even now, I can think of ways I could have written certain lines better or conveyed more emotion. However, I acknowledged that I'm not perfect, and writing is a journey. I vowed to do my best and make each subsequent work better than the last. Currently, I'm excited about Issue #2, which is in progress."

What do you like to do when not writing?

I have a passion for music. I create music and pursue it casually, mostly for sync opportunities. It serves as a good emotional outlet for me. As a creator, I'm always active on social media. I also enjoy gaming and playing fun Battle Royale games like Apex Legends. Additionally, I am a husband and cherish spending time with my beautiful wife, whether it's traveling, trying new foods, or binge-watching Netflix series.
